Description

The Center for Children’s Advocacy (CCA) has an opening for a full-time staff attorney
with our Right Direction: Homeless Youth Advocacy Project. CCA is a non-profit
organization dedicated to fighting for the legal rights of Connecticut’s most

The Homeless Youth Advocacy Project employs legal services, training and
system reform advocacy to help children and youth who are experiencing
homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. For more information, see our
youth-friendly website: speakupteens.org. This position is based in CCA’s
Hartford office and has the opportunity for a hybrid remote/in-office
arrangement.

The person in this position will:
Provide legal consultation & representation to youth and young adults
who are experiencing homelessness, or at-risk of homelessness, including
enforcing rights in the context of homeless students’ educational rights,
older youth in child welfare, juvenile delinquency and Special Immigrant
Juvenile Status.
Partner with community organizations to bring legal services to targeted
populations of youth in the Hartford area. Collaborate with CCA staff to
utilize the Center’s Mobile Legal Office, bringing legal services to
community locations.
Provide legal rights training to youth and community providers about the
legal rights of youth experiencing homelessness.
Respond to legal questions from school systems and community providers
about supporting youth experiencing homelessness.
Produce legal information materials for youth and community providers.
Partner with youth to identify & advocate for systemic reform utilizing
litigation, administrative advocacy and legislative advocacy, as necessary. 



Requirements

The ideal candidate:
Has a passion for working with youth and young adults & loves connecting
with youth and providers in the community;

Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills;
Can work independently and as a member of a team;
Is committed to upholding the mission and values of CCA; and
Has CT Bar membership, or the ability to waive in.

Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience and is at the high-end of salaries for public interest
organizations in Connecticut. Salary scale is based on years of experience and can be provided
upon request. Benefits include 13 paid holidays, generous PTO and sick time, health/dental
insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, professional
development, health care flexible spending account, dependent care flexible spending account,
and hybrid remote work flexibility.
