Description

The Child Protection Division of Human Services Public Health in Health and Human Services is seeking to fill multiple Child Protection Social Worker vacancies. The primary functions of these positions are listed below. Each individual vacancy will have specialized duties and responsibilities depending on the area of assignment: Investigations, Case Management, Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Case Management and Intake/Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The new Child Protection Social Workers will participate in the induction training on Hennepin County's policies, procedures, and practices as well as mandated Department of Human Services training. This will include instructor-led training, court room training, job shadowing other Child Protection Social Workers on a rotational basis, and close supervision while receiving initial case assignments.

Location and hours:
These positions will be hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Human Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55102 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends. Some positions may require working in a 24/7 environment including overnights, weekends, and holidays. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

These positions are recruitment critical and eligible for an employee referral bonus. Current Hennepin County employees who refer candidates may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

About these position types:
All of these positions are regular full-time, benefit earning positions.
These positions are internally classified as a Social Worker, Child Protection.

Candidates will be hired into one of these areas:

  • Investigation Child Protection Social Workers conduct investigations/assessments of alleged maltreatment.
  • Case Management Child Protection Social Workers provide direct social work services to families in which abuse or neglect has been reported in order to carry out the statutory mandate to investigate, protect children from further harm, and safeguard and enhance the welfare of abused/neglected children.
  • ICWA Investigations or Case Management Child Protection Social Workers conduct investigations/assessments of alleged maltreatments, provide service to Native American families, and are responsible for complying with the mandates contained in the Federal Indian Child Welfare Act and the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act.
  • Intake/Rapid Response Team are child protection first responders who address immediate threats to the safety of children. Often, RRT staff respond to families in crisis where the crisis is presenting outside regular business hours. The schedules for these positions are set hours that often include non-traditional shift hours (such as four ten-hour shifts, three twelve- hour shifts, etc.) and may require working in a 24/7 environment including overnights, weekends, and holidays. During times that RRT staff are not responding to families in the community, they provide additional coverage for Intake duties - receiving, documenting, and processing reports of child maltreatment.
