OLLU, founded in 1895 by the Congregation of Divine Providence, is a coeducational comprehensive institution with an enrollment of more than 3,100 students. With its main residential campus in San Antonio and non-traditional programs in San Antonio, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley (La Feria), and online, OLLU has a presence in two of the largest cities in Texas, the border region, and literally around the world.

The University offers more than 30 undergraduate majors and minors, 14 master's programs and three doctoral programs through its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business and Leadership, and the College of Professional Studies. OLLU offers classes in daytime, evening, weekend and online formats.

Job Description:

The Worden School of Social Service invites applications for a full-time Tenure track open rank Position 11- month appointment. The appointment will begin in August 2022; and involve teaching online and on-campus at the Ph.D., MSW, and BSW levels. WSSS welcomes applications from all candidates and is particularly interested in candidates whose substantive areas include policy practice, child welfare, border issues, race and ethnicity issues, global social work emphasizing Latin America, or substance use.

General Duties include:

  • Teaching, Course Design and Evaluation
  • Student Advising
  • Service to School, College, University, Community and Discipline
  • Ph.D. student mentoring, research, and funding support
  • Must maintain an active research and funding plan


  • A doctorate in social work and at least two years post-MSW practice experience with an  MSW from a CSWE accredited school are required.
  • Documented experience in teaching graduate and/or undergraduate level courses and across the curriculum.
  • Record of publication and scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with institutional application of information technology and distance education.
  • Expertise in cross-cultural social work practice with emphasis on Hispanic families and children.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English).

About the Worden School of Social Service

The Worden School of Social Service (WSSS), the first school of social work in Texas, was established more than 79 years ago and since has set the standard for social work education by providing innovative curriculum in different modalities, including online, on-campus, and hybrid, and by its commitment to honoring, celebrating and respecting diversity and its Hispanic heritage. Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), WSSS offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Student enrollment is over 950. 

WSSS is recognized for educating the country's social workers. In 2009, the WSSS won the coveted Council on Social Work Education Presidential Award for Excellence in Social Work Education. In April 2015, it won the Outstanding Commitment to Excellence and Innovation in Distance Learning by a 4-Year Higher Education Organization presented by Texas Distance Learning Association. Additionally, WSSS annually hosts the Social Work Distance Education Conference.

The Worden School of Social Service is housed at Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). Founded in 1895 by the Congregation of Divine Providence, OLLU has developed a reputation for its expertise in Mexican American culture, its deep connection to the history and the community of San Antonio, and its dedication to social justice. As a point of pride, OLLU hosted the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Hearing on Mexican Americans in the Southwest in 1968 and housed the first National Institute of Mexican American History of Civil Rights. OLLU is also famous for its beautiful lakeside campus, which mixes historic buildings with a modern library, residence halls, and technology infrastructure.
