The Director leads efforts in support of the mission and goals of The Salvation Army associated with grants through foundations and government agencies. Oversees United Way applications and field reviews. Uses team approach to maintain current levels of giving and to increase income for unrestricted, general purposes. Achieved through planning, research, relationship building, grant proposal development, consultation, field review, reporting, stewardship, and program development.

  • Develop strategic plan for the utilization of charitable foundation resources. Includes the creation and management of a process which identifies programmatic needs and matches those needs to available foundation funding opportunities. 
  • Identify resource opportunities offered by charitable foundations which are compatible with the mission and goals of The Salvation Army, and which address the specific funding needs of its spiritual and social services ministries. 
  • Duties involve the submission of grant proposals to charitable foundations and government agencies compatible with the mission and goals of The Salvation Army.
  • Lead coordination of financial reports associated with foundation and agency grants.
  • Develop programmatic and budgetary information and writing/editing of the proposal to the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and New Jersey (UWGPNJ). 


  • Master’s degree or Bachelors Degree with equivalent combination of relevant education and experience, with 5-7 years of relevant writing experience and administration including but not limited to capacity building proposals, funding requests to private and family foundations and government grants, plus program design experience, staff supervision and consultation experience.
  • Must be committed to and embrace the mission of The Salvation Army and must have a passion for the role of Development in furthering that mission.
  • Must have strong grasp of the specific disciplines within development (i.e. major gifts, planned giving, direct marketing, corporate and foundation giving, capital campaigns, board development, etc.) and have strategic vision for resource development.
  • Meets Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153
