Would you like to use your lived expertise in the child welfare system to support parents? The Community Services for Families (CSF) program is looking for a parent who has successfully completed services with the Child and Family Well Being Department (CFWB) to provide education, support, and case management to parents currently navigating the child welfare system. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Work hours typically fall Monday-Friday with the need for early morning, evening and weekend appointments based on client need.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide short-term educational and support services, as well as case management services (2-6 meetings) to CFWB-referred parents to encourage early engagement with CFWB services to meet CFWB case plan goals and/or prevent further CFWB involvement.
Provide accurate information about CFWB and the roles of related staff through review of A Parent’s Guide to the Child Welfare System booklet and/or video.
Educate clients with open CFWB case plan on the function of such a case plan and on the importance of engaging in their CFWB case plan in a timely manner.
Coordinates emergency assistance to individual clients, which may include provision of basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, crisis intervention, information and/or referral.
Maintain clear, effective and open communication between multi-disciplinary staff, administrative personnel, and CFWB workers
Participate in meetings, projects and committees as requested by CFWB and/or CFWB COR,
Child Family Team (CFT) meetings as a CSF program representative.
Perform visits for client sessions with flexibility and attention to client’s schedule (including evenings and weekends as needed)
Manage a full caseload ranging from 15-30 clients.
Maintain accurate client files, document case notes in timely manner, and complete funder reports as requested
Schedule and conduct home or in-person visits with clients for intake and or client servicing appointments
Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and other connected program partners,
Attend and participate in various trainings as well as partner and funder-related meetings.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications):
Bachelor’s High School diploma or equivalent.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Direct, lived experience as a consumer in Child and Family Well Being Dept. (aka Child Protective Services, Child Welfare Services) and have successfully completed a dependency or voluntary CFWB case plan.
Subject matter expert in the area of child welfare from the perspective of a consumer.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and cultures and socio-economic families
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of trauma-informed care and practices
Solid proficiency of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook
Accurate data entry of time sensitive information in fast paced environment
Strong communication skills - ability to document client services in clear and concise manner
Bilingual in English/Spanish or other common immigrant language is preferred. * (unless required by contract)
Ability to effectively manage multiple demands and time-sensitive priorities.
Works well with a broad range of diverse, cultural and socio-economic populations and backgrounds.
Possess an awareness of multi-cultural critical issues and community conditions facing children, youth, and families throughout San Diego
Access to reliable transportation and willing to use it for work-related purposes.
