Requirements

Position Summary

The Adoption Specialist works to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the youth and families served by the National Youth Advocate Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Adoption Specialist will perform duties including, but not limited to:

  • Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies.
  • Responding to the foster/adoption inquiries, meeting with prospective foster/adoptive families, and maintaining information on available youth and families.
  • Provide information and required paperwork to families in the home study process.
  • Complete home study interviews with families and home study reviews/updates.
  • Complete safety audits on prospective homes.
  • Review the need history of children in regard to foster-to-adopt/adoptive families to find ideal matches.
  • Advocate for the families in the matching process.
  • Provide written reports on supervised placements.
  • Review the necessary paperwork for adoption placements and finalizations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or other related human service field.
  • Experience in adoption and child welfare.
  • Good driving record, required 100,000/300,000 bodily injury on vehicle insurance.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
  • A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours in the service of foster caregivers, families of origin, and persons served. 
  • Capacity to be flexible and responsive to youth served, foster caregivers, system partners, and internal customers. 
  • Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function. 
  • Demonstrates tolerance and respect for the ideas and actions of others. 
  • Capacity to effectively work with and be respectful and sensitive to persons from various cultures, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds. 

OTHER SKILLS

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Works well independently and as a team member.
  • Multi-task efficiently and be flexible in all situations.
  • Openness to working non-traditional hours as needed.
