Description

MSPCA Northeast Animal Shelter is seeking a dedicated, caring and compassionate veterinarian to join our team.  If you have excellent technical, diagnostic, clinical, and surgical skills, as well as a natural ability to relate to our patients and staff, we want to hear from you.  Currently, we are looking for a per diem veterinarian to fill occasional weekday shifts, on average 3-4 per month. There is the option to fill the medical position, assessing and treating our shelter pets on the adoption floor, or spending the day in surgery for routine spays and neuters. We have a great working environment, limited client interaction and competitive hourly rates.

  • Primary responsibility will be carrying out routine HVHQSN along with other miscellaneous procedures in our brand-new surgical suite.
  • Mentor and train technicians and veterinary assistants, as needed, on surgical monitoring and procedures.
  • Follow controlled drug logs in accordance with DEA guidelines; assure accuracy as it relates to drug logs and submit reports within due dates.
  • Secondary responsibility will be providing veterinary care for all shelter animals residing at NEAS and in foster care.
  • Update the Medical Director and other Staff Veterinarians on medical cases.
  • Follow and contribute to medical and general shelter protocols.
  • Maintain impeccable records of all shelter animals: written charts and digital files, including treatments performed, vaccination histories, clinical findings, surgeries performed, etc., including health certificates as required by MA State Law.
  • As part of the shelter team, contribute professional opinion to emergency euthanasia decisions-making process, and perform and assist with euthanasia as needed.
  • Communicate with the public regarding post adoption concerns as needed

  • Must be committed to continued learning
  • Maintains a professional stance and encourages professionalism in all operations activities. Exhibits cordial, productive relationships with all staff and board members.
