Description

Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, is the world's premier healthcare organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with pediatric developmental disabilities and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system.

The Department of Family and Community Interventions is one of the largest outpatient departments at the Institute and consists of two programs: the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress (currently a funded Category II site in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network) and Therapeutic Foster Care.
The Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress is a recognized leader in trauma- and evidence informed training, inclusive of a robust biannual conference.

The Therapeutic Foster Care program provides comprehensive services for children with emotional, behavioral and specialized healthcare needs. Since its inception in 1984, the department has focused its mission-driven work on trauma- and evidence-informed care, clinical training, advocacy and education, as well as trauma prevention for children, their families and communities that have been negatively impacted by out-of-home placements, traumatic exposures, adverse life experiences, developmental disabilities, racism and/or social injustice. The department director will provide a strategic vision for all services offered by the department and will collaborate with other agencies and special interest groups to advocate for, and advance the needs of, the children, families and communities served by the department and the Institute. The department director has a real and significant impact on effecting change in our community and has the potential to become an assistant vice president or vice president at the Institute, as well as to have a faculty appointment at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
