Company Profile
Cuyahoga County division of Children and Family Services
Company Overview
The Cuyahoga County Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is the largest public children’s services agency in Ohio. DCFS investigates reported allegations of child abuse and neglect and receives custody of children when they are determined to be unsafe. DCFS provides case management, foster care, and adoption services. The mission of DCFS is to assure that children at risk of abuse and neglect are protected and nurtured within a family and with the support of the community. The Division’s programs and links to community services have the goal of strengthening and reuniting families by addressing contributing factors to abuse and neglect. Prevention of abuse and neglect is the goal of our services to approximately 5,500 intact or in-home families. DCFS was an original site for the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Family to Family Initiative. The Division continues to embrace the Family to Family philosophy and has fully incorporated its core strategies: community partnership, team decision making, neighborhood-based recruitment, development, and support of foster families, and self-evaluation. DCFS employs 867 caseworkers, administrators, and support staff. The DCFS budget for 2013 was just over $133 million. Each year the agency has service contact with close to 15,000 families. The Division currently has contracts with approximately 200 service provider partner agencies. In 2013, DCFS received over 48,000 calls to the child abuse and neglect hotline. Over 21,000 of those reports were initially designated as alleged abuse or neglect. In 2013, the Division reunified 373 children with their families and finalized 125 adoptions. DCFS held custody of just over 2,500 children over the course of 2013.
